The story behind this painting has been a long one. I am a history enthusiast and read a lot. I was amazed when great leaders broke the mould and Nelson was definitely one of these. After arriving to work in Portsmouth many years ago, I always wanted to paint a HMS Victory but I did not feel I could quite master it. With patience, skill development and ambition, I set out to create a large statement piece. I am very happy with the result and I hope it finds a great long-term home.
Respect to the 3 original 19th century paintings I found online that I used as reference, unfortunately I have been unable to locate the names.
