Who am I
Growing up in the beautiful Perthshire region of Scotland, I was always captivated by art and drawing, much like the classic tale of a child with pencils, crayons and paper. This passion remained with me throughout my school years, where I even received some awards, though I couldn’t quite pursue it as a career back then.
After a few decades, I decided to pick up the brushes again and have spent the last decade honing the technical skills needed for oil painting. I did this part-time while working full-time, which allowed me to invest in painting and training materials.
While I considered formal art education in my youth, I opted for a personalised learning path instead, refining my skills through collaborations with local artists, in-depth YouTube tutorials and traditional art literature. This blend of modern and classic learning methods has shaped my unique style, which reflects not only my art but also my deep curiosity about the history and evolution of art.
My dedication to authenticity and craftsmanship is evident in my choice of materials. I primarily work on linen grounds with professional-grade oil paints, including the renowned Michael Harding handmade oils, and I believe my pieces radiate a sense of quality and artistic integrity.
Now, I do commissions for the local area and display some of my art at the Sally Port in Old Portsmouth. These are mostly figure and portrait pieces that the owners request.
I’ve decided to reduce my work hours to focus more on painting and sharing my art.
I am a passionate oil painter dedicated to creating stunning, original artworks that resonate with art lovers. My studio is a sanctuary where creativity flourishes, resulting in pieces that bring beauty and emotion into any space.
